A flat and well-toned, muscular abdomen is something most women strive for through exercise and healthy eating. However, some women have protruding abdomens that, regardless of effort, do not go away. The most common causes of this include heredity, multiple pregnancies or significant loss of weight. If you desire a flatter abdomen and Dr. de Ramon thinks that liposuction alone is not appropriate, then a tummy tuck may be a good choice for you. A tummy tuck removes excess fat and skin and in most cases, repairs weakened or mal-positioned muscles. Having a flatter abdomen can increase your self-image, allow you to wear fashions you couldn't wear before, or restore your pre-pregnancy physique.

There are many things to consider prior to having a tummy tuck.

  • You should be at a stable weight.
  • You should be finished having children.
  • Your skin should have good elasticity.
  • You should be in good health and not be smoking.

During a consultation, Dr. de Ramon will review your medical history, discuss your concerns and goals and do a physical exam. There is time for questions and for learning about the procedure. A second consultation is recommended to develop a final surgical plan, ensure all your questions are answered, and choose a surgery date. Dr. de Ramon normally has patients spend the first night post-operatively in the hospital for pain control and assistance getting around. Three to five days of rest is recommended and driving is restricted for about one week. You should not do any heavy lifting for 6 weeks after surgery. Although the surgery and recovery can be challenging, the results can make a big difference in your appearance and outlook.
